"Global Computer Technical Department"

I just got a call from some guy with a heavy Indian accent claiming that he works for Microsoft in London. He insisted that he intercepted transmissions from my computer indicating that my computer was infected with viruses. He asked me to look at the Windows Event Viewer (the machine's error log) and find the numerous errors. He then wanted me to go to a specific website where his "technical specialists" would assist me in clearing up the problem.

This is a SCAM!

Unfortunately for this guy, he attempted to scam a software consultant. I called his bluff and hung up. Also unfortunate is the fact that he sounded very believable for the first few minutes. Someone not familiar with the issues he was raising may have fallen for this.

If you get a call from the Global Computer Technical Department, do not allow them to talk you into anything. Hang up immediately.
